FORCLIME has a mandate to facilitate and support the development of Forest Farmer Groups in the support villages through the Local Community Strengthening and Forest Management Unit Program. This program aims to strengthen the Forest Management Units in providing and facilitating skills related to business development and supporting forest farmer groups towards independent and sustainable businesses.

Therefore, in collaboration with the West Papua Provincial Forestry Office, FORCLIME organized a Basic Entrepreneurship Development Training for forest farmer groups and their facilitators (extension workers) from the Forestry Office and the West Papua Natural Resources Conservation Agency from November 28 to December 1, 2022, in Sorong, West Papua. The training was opened by the Head of the Forest and Social Forestry Development Division, West Papua Provincial Forestry Office, Yunus Krey, S.Hut., M.Sc., and was attended by 24 participants.

After the opening session, the classroom atmosphere became more lively as the Training Team, RIWANI Globe, a business development and human capital consulting agency, encouraged participants to establish rules during the training and appointed a class chairperson from among the participants. With the class chairperson, it is hoped that participants can position themselves not only as objects of training but also as the main subjects (actors) of this training.

On the first day, the Training Team provided brainstorming material: (1) Why form groups?; (2) Understanding the group's goals; and (3) Generating business ideas. The training became more interactive with the support of several microlearning tools such as metaplan, mind mapping, and others.

On the second and third days, participants were guided to learn more about the product value chain, business model canvas, marketing, and introduction to business plans and production plans.

The last session was crucial as participants were expected to create an action plan. The Training Team divided the participants into two groups: forest farmer groups and facilitators. Thus, there will be two action plans. It is hoped that from the action plans developed, participants can consistently follow business licensing procedures and apply the materials obtained during the training.

After the basic entrepreneurship training, the next session will be coaching conducted online, scheduled for early 2023.
