RIWANI Globe was the implementing partner of PT ASTRA INTERNATIONAL, Tbk on Kampung Berseri Astra program in Morotai Island, North Maluku. The majority of the population of Morotai island are fishermen. Tuna is a superior product from the fisheries sector. Tuna is the main source of income for fishermen on Morotai Island. However, fishermen often face problems such as the availability of ice stocks during tuna fishing and the problem of processing waste from tuna.
This program aimed to increase the capacity of BUMDES to develop the rural economy. RIWANI facilitated some activities such as business management training for micro and small businesses, bookkeeping, productivity, gender and entrepreneurship, market access, and developing appropriate technological innovations for superior products. Moreover, RIWANI also provided business coaching for them to improve their business skills.
This program had a positive impact on fishermen on Morotai Island. They are more skilled in tuna management. In addition, they can use tuna fish waste to generate income for housewives, such as making crackers from fish bones and chips from tuna skin.
